Overview

Since you'll be helping out Twitter (thanks again!) we want to let you know our ground rules. Please read the full agreement below before continuing. Here are some of the things you can expect to see:
  • We may show you confidential, yet to be released products or features and you must be willing to keep those secret.
  • You'll be volunteering to help out Twitter and will not be paid.
  • Twitter owns the rights to the translations you provide. You are giving them to us so that we can use them however we want.
  • Among other things, Twitter plans to share the translations with the Twitter development community. We want to help make all of the other great Twitter apps, not just Twitter.com, available in your language.

Terms and Conditions

Introduction

Thank you for your participation in the Twitter, Inc. ("Twitter") "Twitter Community Translation Program" ("Community Translator Program"). Through the Community Translator Program, you will be helping Twitter by translating "user interface text strings" ("text strings"), software strings and phrases from English into a language in which you are fluent. These translated "text strings" may then be accessed and read by members of the Twitter community or others. Additionally, we may distribute the translated text strings to various 3rd party developers or corporations, at our discretion, without compensation to you, to enable them to build new products for their and the Twitter community's benefit. By enrolling as a Community Translator using the online signup form provided, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set forth below (the "Agreement"), so please read these terms and conditions carefully. In this Agreement, "Twitter", "we", or "us" refers to Twitter, Inc., and "Community Translator", "you", or "your" refers to the person or entity performing the language translation services.

Community Translator's Responsibilities

By clicking "I agree" or using the Twitter translation interface, you agree to provide translations in good faith and not to provide automated or inappropriate translations. You also agree to keep the content of the material you are translating confidential and not to blog, Tweet or otherwise tell others about it. Although you are responsible for the content and accuracy of each translation, Twitter reserves the right to review, reject, or remove any translation at any time for any reason in its sole discretion. You represent and warrant that all information you provide for the purpose of enrolling as a Community Translator will be accurate, complete, and current.

Confidentiality

Features, functionality, text, graphics, and other information visible through the translator interface may not be generally available to the public and all such features, functionality, text, graphics, or other information shown through the translator interface are Twitter confidential information ("Confidential Information"). You agree to keep Confidential Information confidential, not to disclose Confidential Information to any other individual, organization, or entity, and not to use Confidential Information for any purpose other than providing translations to Twitter.

Proprietary Rights

You acknowledge and agree that Twitter owns all legal right, title, and interest in and to the text strings, including any intellectual property or other proprietary rights which may subsist in the text strings translated or the resulting translations (whether those rights happen to be registered or not, and wherever in the world those rights may exist). To the extent Twitter does not own all such right, title and interest, you hereby assign such rights, title, and interest to Twitter. You therefore acknowledge that you have no intellectual property or other proprietary rights in such text strings translated or the resulting translations.

No Compensation or Employment

You understand that Twitter, other Twitter users, and the general public, may use your translations for any purpose. You acknowledge that you are providing these translations on a purely voluntary basis, as a means of assisting, and in consideration of the opportunity to assist, the Twitter community to use, implement, and understand various facets of the Twitter platform. Twitter makes no guarantee or representation as to whether or not your translations will be used, and you understand and acknowledge that Twitter will not compensate you for the translations that you provide. Furthermore, you acknowledge and agree that nothing in this agreement or in yo ur voluntary submission of translations creates any employment relationship between you and Twitter.

Term and Termination

The term of this Agreement begins on the date you enroll in the Community Translation Program and continues until terminated as specified herein. If you are dissatisfied with the Community Translation Program or with any of the terms and conditions contained in this Agreement, your sole and exclusive remedy is to terminate your Community Translator status. You may do so by visiting the link provided at the bottom of the Translator Guide page. In such a case, your status as a Community Translator will be deemed terminated when Twitter receives notice from you. Our ownership of your already submitted content continues after termination of this agreement, as do your confidentiality obligations and the various limitations on Twitter's liability.
Twitter may, in its sole discretion, terminate or discontinue the Community Translation Program at any time, terminate your Community Translator status, discontinue your participation in the Community Translation Program, or remove, edit, or alter your translations. Twitter may exercise its discretion to so terminate, discontinue, remove, edit or alter, as provided for above, for any reason, or no reason, including, but not limited to, if Twitter believes that you have violated the terms of this Agreement, Twitter’s Terms of Service, or if Twitter believes your conduct is harmful to Twitter or others. You acknowledge and agree that all such decisions by Twitter are final and Twitter will have no liability with respect to such decisions. Twitter will notify you of termination of your Community Translation Program account via email, and any such cancellation or termination shall be effective on the date Twitter sends such notice.

Notices

Unless otherwise set forth in this Agreement, Twitter may give general notices to you by posting on any Twitter web site (e.g., twitter.com) and, where possible, by electronic mail to your email address.

No Warranty from Twitter

YOU EXPRESSLY AGREE THAT YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE COMMUNITY TRANSLATION PROGRAM IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE COMMUNITY TRANSLATION PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE ON AN "AS IS" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TWITTER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ON ITS OWN BEHALF AND ON BEHALF OF ITS EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, ATTORNEYS, CONSULTANTS, OR CONTRACTORS ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION (i) ANY WARRANTY OR REPRESENTATION WHATSOEVER REGARDING THE OPERATION OF THE COMMUNITY TRANSLATION PROGRAM, THE AVAILABILITY, ACCURACY OR CONTENT OF ANY INFORMATION, SERVICES, OR PRODUCTS PROVIDED OR AVAILABLE THROUGH OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE COMMUNITY TRANSLATION PROGRAM, TWITTER, AND/OR THE TWITTER WEB SITE OR ANY RESULTS OBTAINED THROUGH THE USE THEREOF, AND (ii) THE WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF NONINFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, AND FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO THE ABOVE EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS, AND YOU MAY ALSO HAVE OTHER RIGHTS, WHICH VARY FROM STATE TO STATE.

Limitations of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL TWITTER, ITS EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, ATTORNEYS, CONSULTANTS, OR CONTRACTORS BE LIABLE UNDER THIS AGREEMENT FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, LOST PROFITS, INDIRECT OR OTHER DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOST PROFITS, LOSS OF BUSINESS, COST OF COVER WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF TWITTER HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES AND NOTWITHSTANDING ANY FAILURE OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF ANY LIMITED REMEDY. IN ANY EVENT, TWITTER’S, ITS EMPLOYEES’, AGENTS’, ATTORNEYS’, CONSULTANTS’ OR CONTRACTORS’ AGGREGATE LIABILITY UNDER THIS AGREEMENT FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL BE STRICTLY LIMITED TO $100.00. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. You acknowledge that Twitter has entered into this Agreement in reliance upon the limitations of liability set forth herein and that the same is an essential basis of the bargain between the parties.

Choice of Law and Venue

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without giving effect to principles of conflicts of law. You agree that the exclusive venue for any disputes arising under this Agreement shall be the state and federal courts located in the City and County of San Francisco, California.

Entire Agreement

This Agreement contains the entire agreement of the parties regarding the subject matter of this Agreement and supersedes all previous communications, representations, understandings and agreements, either oral or written, between you and Twitter. Twitter may modify the terms of this Agreement at any time upon notice published on the Twitter Translation Center web site. Any use of the Community Translation Program after such notice shall be deemed to be continued acceptance of this Agreement including its amendments and modifications.

Getting started with the Translation Center

How do I sign up?

  1. Log in to the Translation Center with your Twitter username and password.
  2. Agree to the Translation Center Terms of Service and choose the language you want to translate to. Note: You will only have to do this once and you cannot change your language without a support request, so choose your native language or the one you know best!

What next?

  1. Check the language guidelines in your language forums. Click on the Forums tab at the top of the Translation Center home page and find your language forum, under Language Discussion. (You’ll see a post stickied at the top with your guidelines in it.)
  2. When translating, you should use the glossary set out for your language by the moderators and community. You can access this by clicking the Help tab at the top of the page and then selecting Glossary in the drop-down menu.

How do I help?

On the Translation Center home page you'll see the Dashboard. The dashboard is a portal that informs you about any priority tasks, displays the moderators for your language and allows you to participate in translation, learning or evaluation tasks.
For Translation,
  1. Click through using the Translate option at the top of the dashboard.
  2. You'll be presented with a number of different products and projects. Choose a project that you would like to help translate.
  3. Once you have clicked through into a project, you’ll see the project tags which contain phrases to be translated. A tag usually represents a specific area of a project, i.e. the 'Settings' tag will contain strings for translation visible in Twitter.com Settings.
  4. Begin translating!
