HISTORY and MISSION
The Youth Policy Institute transforms Los Angeles neighborhoods using a holistic approach to reduce poverty by ensuring families have access to high quality schools, wrap-around education and technology services, enabling a successful transition from cradle to college and career.

Since the 1990’s, YPI has successfully blended multiple funding streams and partnerships to saturate Los Angeles communities with critically needed services. YPI currently operates a $41 million budget and places more than 1,200 staff at 125 service sites throughout Los Angeles. YPI provide programs and services to more than 100,000 clients each year. 

JOB SUMMARY
Youth Policy Institute (YPI) is seeking an Academic Instructor for its after school programs. The Academic Instructor will, under the direction of the After-School Site Coordinator, plan, organize, present, and provide meaningful instruction to pupils in areas assigned related duties necessary to the successful operation of the after-school program. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide instruction in relevant subject matter and prepares weekly lesson plans that align with the California State Standards
  • Develop and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning
  • Assists pupils and administrators to set, establish, and maintain acceptable school and classroom behavior and standards
  • Apply a wide variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, applicable to individuals or groups of pupils of varying capabilities identified by valid analysis
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect pupils, equipment, materials, and school plant
  •  Provide for continuous evaluation of pupil progress consistent with teacher, school and program established instructional objectives, goals, and policy
  • Maintain accurate attendance records as required by the Youth Policy Institute
  •  Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and program regulations
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with parents, students, counselors, teachers, and administrators
  • Attend required meetings and provides feedback or input as appropriate
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning the instructional objectives and goals for the pupils
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials within the program
  • During periods of critical personnel shortage or other emergency situation, shall temporarily perform any duties as directed
LOCATION
Los Angeles & San Fernando Valley
WORK SCHEDULE
Part-time, primarily after school, hours vary per school site
